2006 Zinfandel-Dry Creek Valley
Our Dry Creek Valley estate vineyard straddles Dry Creek Road in eastern Dry Creek Valley. The grapes for this Zinfandel come from the oldest part of the vineyard, up the hill and across the road from the winery. First planted in the 1950s, this vineyard is cultivated by Richard and his son Tom. This Zinfandel planting were the first grapes Richard put in the ground.
Tasting Notes and Observations
Our 2006 Zinfandel opens with a deep, rich ruby coloring that is opaque but brightly so in the Zinfandel tradition. Its aromas pack brilliant and effusive blackberry notes that remind us of fresh baked berry pie. Hints of licorice, cocoa and five spice swirl in the glass too. It delivers excellent acid/tannin balance and a lovely, velvety middle where flavors of blackberry, dark fruits, five-spice and a meaty-ness take over the palate. It finishes medium to long with lingering cocoa and spice.
